"Once, Vivian even followed Merlin as far as the fairy-haunted forest of Broceliande, in Brittany, where she finally beguiled him into revealing a magic spell by which a human being could be enclosed in a hawthorn tree, in which he would have to dwell forever." -H. A. Guerber, Myths and Legends of the Middle Ages

As others have noted, I really love their expressions here. I also adore the way Merlin's hand is wrapped around Arthur's, the arch of his fingers is really beautiful. I know this is going to sound nuts but, the way the tree is encircling Merlin's outstretched arm looks almost jealous.  OK, I know, I'm nuts but there you go. Love this one!

I'm glad you like the hands, for I struggled with them the most. I didn't have a visual reference for them, so I just had to think of the way mine would bend/pose naturally. I'm happy it seemed to work out. Haha The tree really does look jealous, doesn't it? I enjoy comments like that because I always look back and say, "Hey, you're right! Ha!" Thank you so much for commenting.

Love the emotion in their faces.  And the way you've used the erasing to bring in those light rays coming through the trees.

This is awesome. I love their facial expressions in this. Does Arthur know about Merlin's magic in this story? Ooh and the tree and the background and the detail is very good.

Thank you! And yes, Arthur does know that Merlin has magic in this book of mythology. In many of the legends and tales, such as Bulfinch's Mythology and The Forest in Folklore and Mythology by Porteous actually depict Merlin working as a sorcerer and architect for Uther and basically working the same job for Arthur. Legend has it that Merlin actually designed the round table for Uther.

Actual legends about Merlin and Arthur are pretty inconsistent, since many of the writers were poets from the middle ages and more modern writers that have works that are so famous, that their writing is considered to be among the Arthur Legends.

Teehee Sorry for the spiel about mythology, but it is just so interesting to me! I'm overjoyed you like the expressions. Arthur turned out a bit more scared than I was intending, but it worked out since the tree/Merlin melding developed in a creepy way, so it was only natural Arthur should look scared. I'm glad you like the detail! Thank you very much for your comment! ^_^
